The only Turkish restaurant in Indianapolis, The Bosphorus' cuisine offers the Mediterranean blend of traditional Greek and Middle Eastern dishes, giving the kitchens grill a workout with a selection of skewered kebobs featuring lamb, chicken, and swordfish. A specialty is the gyro-like strips of ground lamb and beef, called iskender, sliced from the vertical skewer and heaped on the plate, or inserted in fried bread with yogurt, tomato, and onions. Eggplant is given considerable attention, as stuffed with ground beef and vegetables; fried and cubed for a salad and deep fried for a yogurt dip. Sautéed shrimp, charbroiled marinated lamb chops, fried calamari, and fried calf's liver round out a hearty menu that covers a lot of the Turkish landscape.
