UPS to roll with Roush Fenway Racing, Ford
UPS will join Roush Fenway Racing and return to Ford cars for the 2009 NASCAR season under a new multi-year agreement. The Atlanta-based package shipper said David Ragan will race the No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion next season in a revitalized UPS motorsports program. The agreement also marks a return to Ford Motor Co. Ragan and Roush Fenway Racing will be supported by UPS with a variety of new programs, to be fully announced in coming weeks, including an entirely new advertising campaign. The 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season will mark the ninth season of primary sponsorship for UPS and the 10th year as the Official Delivery Company of NASCAR. (From AtlantaBusinessJournal)

Greg Biffle announced today that he has signed a three-year extension of his contract with Roush Fenway Racing. Biffle has been with Roush Fenway Racing since 1998. During his 10 years at Roush Fenway Racing, Biffle has accumulated 46 wins, 166 top-five finishes and 250 top-10 finishes in 496 starts. Biffle is looking forward to the continued relationship with Roush Fenway Racing as well as a long-term partnership with 3M. “I’m extremely happy and relieved to have this contract complete,” said Biffle. “I have a team that can contend for the championship this season and for future seasons as well. 3M has been an incredible partner for several years now and having them on board made the decision even easier. All the elements are in place: the resources of Ford and Roush Fenway, the excellent team, the outstanding cars and having a great primary sponsor like 3M for the next few years.” (From RoushFenway.com)

There are really no surprises on the list. The top three teams were Hendrick Motorsports ($335M), Roush Fenway Racing ($313M), Joe Gibbs Racing ($184M). Jeff Gordon ($92M), Dale Jr. ($79M), and Jimmie Johnson ($58M) drive the three most valuable cars. And, Jeff Gordon leads highest paid drivers at $32 million. He is followed by Dale Jr. ($31M) and Jimmie Johnson ($23M).
McMurray leaving Roush Fenway?
We all had to see this one coming. With McMurray's early season struggles to stay in the top 35 in points, the emergence of David Ragan, and Roush Fenway needing to get rid of one of it's five-cars before the 2010 season, it was only a matter of time until someone's head was on the chopping block. ThatsRacin.com is reporting that representatives for McMurray have contacted other race teams to let them know that McMurray will be available next season. McMurray hasn't done much since moving over to Roush Fenway in 2006, however; he remains a very popular driver and a fixture on pre-race interviews, so he shouldn't have too much trouble landing at a competitive race team. As for McMurray's sponsor, Crown Royal, it remains to be seen whether they will follow McMurray or stay with Roush Fenway. If they stay, there are already questions about whether Crown Royal will move over to Greg Biffle's No. 16, or whether Biffle will take over the No. 26.

Texas: Samsung 500 - Last minute notes (4/6/08)
Tags: jeff burton, kyle busch, carl edwards, dale earnhardt jr, michael mcdowell, roush racing
Pole: Dale Earnhardt Jr. - 190.907 mph
Outside pole: Carl Edwards - 189.487 mph
Didn't qualify: Dario Franchitti, Chad McCumbee and Burney Lamar
Jeff Burton is the only driver to win more than once in 14 races at Texas.
Dale Jr. seems to be the popular pick for this weekend. He's starting from the pole, but he's trying to win only his first race since Richmond in 2006. However, don't count out Kyle Busch, who won at - the similar - Atlanta Motor Speedway earlier this year, and who dominated the Nationwide Series race on Saturday.
Roush looks good also: The five cars of the Roush Fenway Racing team were impressive in the final Cup practice. Carl Edwards posted the fastest lap of the session and Greg Biffle the second best. All five drivers were in the top 12.
"We're real happy with where our Cup cars are," owner Jack Roush said. "We've really got a lock on the mile-and-a-half tracks. If the weather is good, we know we can run well."
From Michael McDowell:
"I want to be in the media spotlight for the right reason and that's for being a good race car driver and running well," McDowell said on Saturday. "The second part of it is that you'll take it whenever you can get it. Especially with the way this sport is right now. We don't want to go out there and wreck cars to get on TV, that's never the plan. If you're going to do one as spectacular as we did, we'll definitely soak up as much as we can get.
"Nobody is going to forget this wreck, but it doesn't guarantee me that I'm going to have a ride. The only thing that guarantees me of having a ride is performance and that's what I'm going to focus on. I'll climb back in there and do it."

Friday's qualifying saw Jeff Gordon win the poll for the race with a speed of 96.288mph. Also on the front row is Denny Hamlin.
Kyle Petty, John Andretti, Tony Raines, and Joe Nemechek did not qualify for the race.
NASCAR has said no to David Reutimann, 26th in the points, on points swap with #44 car that is 34th place in the points. NASCAR is only going to do a point swap if a merger occurs.
Elliott Sadler says he does not know how he injured his back. He expects to race on Sunday, but if he can't go, Dennis Setzer (practiced Sadler's Cup car at Martinsville) will most likely be his replacement.
Greg Biffle says that he is 90% sure that he is going to stay at Roush. "We're really just in the fine-tune negotiations [stage]," Biffle said. "I think we're coming along fairly well. It hasn't been a top priority, but we've been communicating back and forth about what we'd like to see in a contract -- appearances and the way it's structured and different things.
TUMS announced today that it will be the sponsor of Martinville Speedway's October 19, 2008 Sprint Cup series race – The TUMS QuikPak 500. In addition to the TUMS QuikPak 500 at Martinsville Speedway, TUMS will serve as an associate sponsor of the No. 40 and 41 Dodges for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates throughout the 2008 season. The TUMS logo will appear on the B-post and rear quarter panel.
