Promotional appearances for Richmond Race Week

Thursday

• Rusty Wallace, ABC/ESPN lead auto racing analyst, and Steve Wallace will appear for public autographs at the FasMart location at 8188 Atlee Road, Mechanicsville, from 6-7 p.m.. The No. 66 5-Hour Energy Chevrolet show car will be on display.
• Ken Schrader autograph signing at Circuit City, 11732 W. Broad St., in Short Pump, from 7-8 p.m. The DLP No. 96 show car will appear from 2-7 p.m.

Friday

• Carl Edwards, Kenny Wallace, Brad Keselowski and Landon Cassill will make appearances in the Party Zone fan hospitality area prior to the Emerson Radio 250 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Richmond International Raceway. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in exclusive question-and-answer sessions with Edwards, Wallace, Keselowski, Cassill and track president Doug Fritz, as part of the Party Zone package.
• Fans with Friday race tickets can purchase tickets for the Party Zone for $65, which includes an exclusive pre-race pit pass for fans 18 and over (no shorts, sleeveless shirts or open-toed shoes are permitted on pit road) to see NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice from pit road (weather permitting), all-you-can-eat dinner buffet from 3-5:30 p.m. and appetizers from 5:30-6:30 p.m., three beer tickets for fans 21 years of age and older (valid identification required) and unlimited sodas and water.
• The DLP No. 96 show car will appear at 9860 Brook Road, Glen Allen, from 2-7 p.m.

Saturday

• Denny Hamlin will visit Richmond International Raceway's Virginia Lottery Green Flag Zone fan hospitality area. Hamlin will participate in a question-and-answer session, joining defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson, television personality Larry McReynolds and track president Doug Fritz.
• Admission to the Virginia Lottery Green Flag Zone includes a pre-race pit pass (valid 2-6:30 p.m., time and weather permitting), appetizers from 2-3 p.m., all-you-can-eat dinner buffet from 3-6:30 p.m., six beer tickets for fans 21 years of age and older (with valid identification), unlimited sodas and water. Cost is $90 per person.
• Fans must have a grandstand ticket to Saturday's race to purchase Virginia Lottery Green Flag Zone tickets.
• Tickets are still available by calling 866-455-RACE or visiting www.rir.com.
• The DLP No. 96 show car will appear at 9900 W. Broad St., Glen Allen, from 12-5 p.m.

Sunday

• The DLP No. 96 show car will appear at 1321 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, from 12-5 p.m.

Notes - Samsung 500 at Texas

-Dale Jr. had a decent finish, but couldn't do better than 12th. “It was frustrating,” Earnhardt said. “We just chased the handling of the car all day, we had it too tight there at the end.”

-Clint Bowyer and Denny Hamlin touched coming out of turn 4 on the last lap. Bowyer, who was going for a top-5 finish, hit the wall, but was able to save the car and finished 10th. “Clint just pinched me up there on the final lap,” Hamlin said. “I had to turn left or I’d have gone into the wall. There was no place to go.”

“(Hamlin’s car) clipped us in the right rear, and that was it,” Bowyer said.

-Ryan Newman failed the postrace inspection Sunday. It was determined that the right rear of the car was too high. NASCAR will announce any resulting penalties this week.

-Jamie McMurray finished 14th, and is now well inside the top-35 in points (26th).  This is second five-position jump in the points after finishing eighth at Martinsville.

-Sam Hornish Jr. moved up two spots to 34th and is guaranteed a spot in Saturday's race at Phoenix International Raceway.

-Hornish's gain is Mayfield's loss, the two drivers switched places with Jeremy Mayfield falling out of the top 35.

-David Reutimann finished 41st. He dropped another spot to 38th in points, and will have to qualify on time again at Phoenix.

-Greg Biffle took the biggest hit in the point standings. He lost six spots (to 9th) in the standings after starting the race 16th, and finishing 39th, 27 laps down (mechanical problems).

-Jeff Burton maintains his points lead after finishing sixth.

-Matt Kenseth decided to not pit for fresh tires during the final caution, and was passed shortly after green by Jeff Burton and Tony Stewart, and finished ninth.

"When you're the first one on old tires and everybody's got new tires behind you, they're going to eat your lunch," Kenseth said. "It was a 50-50 call, and we were right in the middle, and we tried it and it didn't work."

-Denny Hamlin's postrace interview session on pit road lasted just 41 seconds before he nearly passed out from dehydration, and was taken to the infield care center. "I'm feeling much better now," Hamlin said at the center. "It really hit me when I got out of the car. I was dizzy and just needed to sit down."

Details, Drivers announced for Prelude to a Dream

April 4, 2008 // FORT WORTH, Texas -- A supernova of racing talent will again descend upon the Field of Dreams that is Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, on June 4 when the dirt that made champions out of A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti hosts today's racing stars at the fourth annual Old Spice Prelude to the Dream.

For those not lucky enough to grab a seat for the dirt late-model race featuring more than 25 world renowned drivers as they battle for dirt supremacy, HBO Pay-Per-View will present the event live to the entire nation. Proceeds from this telecast will support construction of Victory Junction Gang Camp II in Kansas City, as well as the Tony Stewart Foundationexternal link.

The all-star race will feature such racing icons as Tony Stewart, Kasey Kahne, Kyle Busch, Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Denny Hamlin, Bobby Labonte and more. All will pilot 2,300-pound dirt late-model stock cars capable of putting out more than 800 horsepower.  Additionally, J.J. Yeley, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Ryan Newman, Bill Elliott, Dave Blaney, Aric Almirola, Ron Capps, Cruz Pedregon, Ray Evernham, Red Farmer, Ken Schrader and Kenny Wallace have also committed to the Old Spice Prelude to the Dream.

Drivers from all types of disciplines, some with lots of dirt-track experience and others with hardly any, will participate in hot laps, qualifying, heat races and the 30-lap feature on the half-mile clay oval, all of which will be televised live on HBO. (From EldoraSpeedway.com)

Inaugural Denny Hamlin 175 at Southside Speedway

April 4, 2008 // Richmond, VA – On May 1st, 2008 Southside Speedway will welcome home NASCAR Sprint Cup driver of the #11 FedEx Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota and Chesterfield native Denny Hamlin. In creating the Denny Hamlin 175, he will launch something near to his heart…the Denny Hamlin Foundation. Hamlin will bring along some of his friends to compete against Southside Speedway’s elite group of racers, including NASCAR prodigy Joey Logano and two-time Southside Speedway Champion Curtis Markham in a 175 lap late model show down.

This all-star race marks the first fundraiser for the Denny Hamlin Foundation, a newly created charity Hamlin formed to aid in raising awareness and funding for Cystic Fibrosis causes and other 501(c)(3) not for profit corporations. 

“I am really looking forward to returning to Southside Speedway and having the chance to promote and participate in a race that is going to be very competitive and exciting for a lot of my friends from our Friday night short track days, but also a lot of the new fans we have met since I joined Joe Gibbs Racing. I am also very appreciative of Southside Speedway which has graciously agreed to not only co-promote the event, but to donate all profit of the ticket sales to the Denny Hamlin Foundation. Martinsville Speedway: pre-race notes (3/28/08)

Friday's qualifying saw Jeff Gordon win the poll for the race with a speed of 96.288mph. Also on the front row is Denny Hamlin.

Kyle Petty, John Andretti, Tony Raines, and Joe Nemechek did not qualify for the race.

NASCAR has said no to David Reutimann, 26th in the points, on points swap with #44 car that is 34th place in the points. NASCAR is only going to do a point swap if a merger occurs.

Elliott Sadler says he does not know how he injured his back. He expects to race on Sunday, but if he can't go, Dennis Setzer (practiced Sadler's Cup car at Martinsville) will most likely be his replacement.

Greg Biffle says that he is 90% sure that he is going to stay at Roush. "We're really just in the fine-tune negotiations [stage]," Biffle said. "I think we're coming along fairly well. It hasn't been a top priority, but we've been communicating back and forth about what we'd like to see in a contract -- appearances and the way it's structured and different things.

TUMS announced today that it will be the sponsor of Martinville Speedway's October 19, 2008 Sprint Cup series race – The TUMS QuikPak 500. In addition to the TUMS QuikPak 500 at Martinsville Speedway, TUMS will serve as an associate sponsor of the No. 40 and 41 Dodges for Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates throughout the 2008 season. The TUMS logo will appear on the B-post and rear quarter panel.
